Monastic Breath Prayers: Grounding for Stress and Burnout

Find a comfortable position, loosen your shoulders, and rest your hands openly. Let your breathing slow down. Inhale deeply through your nose as you silently recite the first phrase, hold the breath for a brief moment of stillness, and exhale slowly through your mouth as you silently recite the second phrase. Repeat this rhythm for 5 to 10 minutes to down-regulate survival stress.

  • For Acute Anxiety & Panic:

    • Inhale: "Peace of Christ, guard my heart..."

    • Exhale: "...and quiet my mind."

  • For Exhaustion & Burnout:

    • Inhale: "My soul finds rest..."

    • Exhale: "...in You alone."

  • For Uncertainty & Transitions:

    • Inhale: "You are my hiding place..."

    • Exhale: "...I trust in Your grace."

  • For Safe Grounding:

    • Inhale: "Be still, my soul..."

    • Exhale: "...the Lord is here."
